Details
The N-terminal of the prohormone brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) is an inactive protein of 76 amino acids that is cleaved from proBNP, releasing brain natriuretic peptide. Blood levels of BNP and NT-proBNP can be used to screen for and diagnose acute congestive heart failure. It can also be useful in assessing the prognosis of heart failure, as both markers are elevated in cases with more severe outcomes. Plasma levels of BNP and NT-proBNP are usually elevated in symptomatic and non-symptomatic left ventricular failure, coronary artery disease and myocardial ischaemia. The NT-proBNP Rapid Test Card (Whole Blood/Serum/Plasma) is a simple test that qualitatively detects the presence of NT-proBNP using anti-NT-proBNP antibody-coated particles and binding reagent from a whole blood, serum or plasma sample. The sensitivity of the test is also 0.45ng/ml.
