Details
FABP is a newly introduced plasma marker of acute myocardial infarction (AMI). FABP (15kD) in plasma at 2 hours is closely associated with elevated plasma insulin after myocardial infarction and normalises at 18-24 hours. The concentration of FABP in skeletal muscle is twenty times lower than in myocardium (myoglobin is at nearly the same level in skeletal muscle as in myocardium). This makes myocardium specific for myoglobin. Accordingly, FABP is a useful biochemical marker for proving or rejecting the presence of AMI. FABP levels and is a useful plasma marker for determining the size of myocardial infarction. FABP can be used appropriately as a standard for early diagnosis of AMI by immunoassay, immunogenic antiserum, FABP mass standardization, FABP biochemical and immunochemical studies, iodide labeling.
