Details
Creatine kinase-MB (CK-MB) is a dimeric enzyme found in the myocardium with a molecular weight of 87.0 kDa 1. Creatine kinase (CK) is a dimeric enzyme consisting of two subunits, as in muscle "M (muscle)", brain "B (brain)". These form three different isoenzymes, CK-MM, CK-BB, and CK-MB. The CK-MB creatine kinase isoenzyme is the most important in myocardial metabolism2.
CK-MB levels rise in the blood 3-8 hours after the onset of myocardial infarction symptoms, reaching a maximum between 9-30 hours after myocardial damage and returning to baseline values 48-72 hours later3.
The CK-MB Test Card (Whole Blood/Serum/Plasma) uses a complex reaction of combined antibody-coated particles and reagents for the qualitative detection of CK-MB in whole blood, serum or plasma. The minimum detectable concentration is 5 ng/ml CK-MB.
