These Frenzel goggles, also known as nystagmus glasses, are used for testing spontaneous or provocative nystagmus of the eyes.
The highly magnified lenses of the glasses and the integrated illumination enable the examiner to observe the patient's eye movements precisely. The high dioptre value of at least +15 dioptres also prevents the possibility of fixating on objects. This is necessary because fixation of objects suppresses the vestibulo-ocular reflex and thus also the nystagmus.
The Frenzel glasses are available in two variations. Type 503 is equipped with an attached battery handle, while type 703 is equipped with a battery handle that has a bayonet connector on the side. Model 703 can also be connected with the separately available bayonet cable to allow for positioned or rotating exams.
