With the new LED nystagmus goggles, we offer an improved version of our proven nystagmus goggles according to Frenzel and Blessing. The Model 821 with headband and connector cable can be used for prolonged examinations where the LED nystagmus goggles are attached to the patient's head using the headband, e.g. for thermal examination of caloric nystagmus. The actual illuminated spectacle test is performed in a dark room or a heavily darkened room. The internal illumination of the goggles breaks the optical contact of the patient with the environment (eliminating the fixation that prevents nystagmus). The new LED nystagmus goggles are illuminated by diodes placed in a circle behind the illuminating plate, which produce diffuse light of adjustable brightness without fixed light points that could affect the result of the test. The timer function allows easy observation of deviations within a defined time interval (30, 60 or 90 seconds). The automatic on/off function can be switched off for the cabled versions of the LED nystagmus goggles. Here, the illumination is switched off one minute after the timer expires; reapplication of the LED nystagmus goggles automatically switches it back on. This energy-saving feature, together with a low battery indicator, is intended to ensure the constant availability of the LED Nystagmus Spectacles.
