The Strep-A Rapid Test Strip is an immunochromatographic qualitative test for the detection of Streptococcus A antigen in throat swabs to aid in the diagnosis of Streptococcus A infection.
Streptococcus pyogenes is a non-motile Gram-positive coccus, which is identical to Streptococcus A according to Lancefield classification based on antigenic structure. It is the cause of many serious infections, such as throat infections, respiratory infections, impetigo, pericarditis, meningitis, puerperal fever and arthritis. If left untreated, these infections can lead to serious complications such as rheumatic fever and purulent tonsillitis. Conventional culture methods require 24-48 hours, possibly longer, to isolate and identify Streptococcus A.
The presence of a coloured stripe in the test zone indicates a positive result and the absence of a coloured stripe indicates a negative result. To verify the procedure, a coloured stripe appears in the control zone, confirming the correct operation of the test plate, the correct sample volume and the absorption of the sample.
